Our Thirty-Five Year Mission
We have been the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill chapter of STARFLEET International, a worldwide association of fans with a common interest in Star Trek, since 1989. More than a fan club, we celebrate the ideas expressed in the Star Trek universe through community service throughout the greater Triangle area. Interested in joining us? We’d love to have you!
There are two auxiliary services assigned to the Kitty Hawk: the 105th Marine Strike Group (MSG), a part of the STARFLEET Marine Corps; and the 37th Special Operations Unit (SOU). They each offer a unique take on the Star Trek fandom. Anyone can join one—or both—and join in the fun.
105th Marine Strike Group: “Red Wolves”
For a more military-flavored STARFLEET experience, consider joining the STARFLEET Marine Corps (SFMC)! The Red Wolves have spearheaded our prop development division, as well as coordinating our Stop Soldier Suicide fundraiser. If that’s you, then “Run with the Wolves”!
Special Operations Unit 37: “Ghost Army”
Mission Statement
As a Special Operations Unit reporting to STARFLEET Special Operations Command and assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk, Unit 37:
- Always makes FUN the first and irreplaceable priority of all our activities
- Seeks out opportunities to help our community, further space and environmental science activities, and promote the universe and values of Star Trek through volunteer service.
- Leads the way in establishing relationships within STARFLEET, other fan groups, and appropriate real-world organizations to further our mission.
Boldly engages other groups in and beyond STARFLEET to improve the member experience.
The Ghost Army spearheaded the development of our newer volunteer service areas, including Adopt-A-Highway and Habitat for Humanity.
If you’ve seen enough to know you want to join the Kitty Hawk crew, we’d love to have you! Just contact the Commanding Officer, who will get you shipside. Once you decide to join the crew, you can start earning Promotion Points and advance through the ranks. You can also join STARFLEET International and become a STARFLEET or SFMC Officer.
What We Do
Community Service

Serving our community is the most important way we express the spirit of Star Trek. From protecting the planet we call home, to manning the comms at the UNC-TV Telethon, to promoting healthy living and raising funds for soldiers with PTSD, our crew strives to embody the ideals of the fandom we love.

Fan Events
We’ve been a fixture at GalaxyCon Raleigh for more than five years—both sending attendees and hosting a booth or room. Come see our transporter this July! We are also the STARFLEET International liaisons to Starbase Indy and are looking forward to attending the STARFLEET Region 1 Summit in May.
Social Events
From monthly gatherings to game nights, conventions to chowdowns, we believe in having fun together. Check back soon to see photos from our past events, or stop by to make your own memories at future ones!
